Clearwater River

The Chief of the Nez Perces gave the Lewis and Clark expedition valuable information on how they would get to the ocean.  From Clearwater they would go onto the Snake River and then onto the Columbia river.  The Corps had expected an easy trip down the Clearwater in their canoes.  But their canoes didn't last long with the harsh rapids.  One canoe hit a rock and sprang a leak. The other sank.  The Corps had to stop and repair the leaks,  and try to dry the wet supplies.  Sacagawea hoped that the Clearwater would let them by with no more problems.
