Clark and one other person went ahead of the
others. They came near a stream and built fires for the others that
were still coming. They didn't have any food and because they were
so hungry, Clark named the stream Hungry Creek. The next day the
hunting party found a stray horse. When they got back to camp they butchered,
cooked, and ate parts of it. With the remaining parts of the horse.
They hung it on a tree for Lewis and his party.
Later on they had to cross Hungry Creek and that's when Sacagawea
found some early blooming plants. They didn't know what it was so
they didn't eat it but kept it in a bag so they could find out later.
We know it today as the Western Spring Beauty.
