Poetry By Charles Albano

A FIRE BURNING

A fire burning deep inside
Won't let my spirit go;
I cannot run and cannot hide,
Or turn the heat down low.

In time I guess it will burn out,
But late if things go right,
When I and it will be in rout
To pass into eternal night.

DESIGN

Observe
the designs of nature
and in nature--
see fresh
its flights of imagination
in the service of evolution,
unbounded creativity
unending variety
in the air
undersea
underfoot alive and
preserved for discovery--
faultless structures
innumerable experiments performed
unwitnessed,
intricate from the bottom up,
delicate traceries finer than hair
microbial architecture
massive bone
riddled with marrow caverns
razored teeth;
all of it self-organized,
imbued with thought
and a love for
design
gifted
by the Creator.

ETERNITY

Is eternity
the sum of all time
or just the moment
that we live?
It's much too big
a concept for me....
This moment, though,
I can handle fine.
