We aren't sure how it happened but weighing in at 2 1/2 pounds at birth she was petite to say the least! She was only a couple days old when this happened. At her 2 week check up she weighed just under 11 pounds so she is growing quite well considering everything she has been through.
The Vet feels that she will have a bow in her leg for the rest of her life. It isn't bowing in the direction of the fracture as you see in the xray. Her cannon bone will dip backwards. It's possible he can put a pin in it, but further work on the leg could cause more loss of growth. Either way, this leg will most likely always remain shorter than the other one. We aren't going to give up on her! She has made it through everything else so far... so we have to help her win the fight!
Sugar Rae was born 2-2-99 , premature, and spunky! Even with her splint on she gets around just as good as any of the other kids in the pen! With the help of friends on Goatkeepers Onelist we gave her the name Sugar Rae..:) She will sort of 'thunk' the other kids with her splint to get them to move out of her way. She has adapted very well. However, this 'thunking' that she does may have caused this bow in her leg according to the vet. A pin may well be needed now to try to straighten the bone.
