Of course we have some
beautiful grade does also!!!! Shouldn't everyone have a few of these?=) We must
give them the recognition that they too deserve.
Crystal is a 12yr old Alpine
doe that has been milking 16lbs a day since she was a 3yr.old!! WOW! Her legs
are still strong and she continues to give us triplets each year.
Snow is another aged doe that was a showmanship doe for Jamie
for the first 5 years of her life. Snow is a saanen/alpine cross who of course
looks like a saanen. She too has milked excellent for us giving us up to 11lbs.
a day!!
Rebecca, Good ole rebecca!!! She is getting up there in age also but her body
and attitude are keepers! She is a "broken sundgau". We are still waiting to get a daughter that
looks like her but with more size. As a kid she placed in the top 3 of her class
everytime...but as she turned 3yrs. we noticed that she just wasn't going to make the proper height
for the standards.=( The judges all told the crowd "this is what you want in a good animal, she just
needs more leg under her". Oh well.. she milks great and is like a mini version of the perfect goat!!
Fudge is another aged doe who faithfully gives us a pair of twins and milks
9lbs. every year. She never was one who liked to be lead around so she hasn't
been shown much. Her little "thing" that we laugh about is the fact that when
spring comes she sheds BALD! Her hair all comes right back in about 2 weeks, but
she sure looks funny for awhile! Except for an ear trim and maybe a little under
her chin, she never needs a spring clip out! One of her daughters has placed
1st at the 4-H Caprine Classic...now that is something for Fudge to feel proud of!
Petunia is out of Crystal and milks as much as her dam...the buck we used
improved the udder support and gave us a little bigger orfices for faster milk out.
For some reason though the buck threw us a curve and Petunia looks like a Toggenburg.!
This is not bad, but she couldn't be registered as an ALPINE. Since we purchased
Mr.Excitment, this has never happened to us again. Petunia is a great asset to our
herd and we would never part with her. How can you knock a doe that gives you
14lbs. of milk every day?
We have a "few" more to write about and some pictures to add so please visit again!
