The secretary next door
had a question about hyphens,
a run-of-the-mill question. I helped her.
I remember Thoreau saying
he was widely travelled
(in Concord).
I'm widely published
(on NCTE-TALK). Thanks for reading me.
I presented a workshop to teachers
on teaching grammar
in context.
Many of us were on different ends
of the teeter-totter.
We found some balance.
In the supermarket, I ran into a friend
and her aunt
(both former students of mine)
We stopped in front of the dairy case
and talked and laughed.
How happy I was
they didn't duck around
to the dog food aisle
when they saw me coming.
I send a poem a day by e-mail
to every secondary teacher
in my school district.
No one has complained.
Several have expressed gratitude.
But the best part
is finding and copying the poems.
I read through many
to find a few.
Best part of the day.
