Titanic still captures our imaginations after
eight-five years because her story is like a great novel that really happened. The story of
Titanic and her fate seemed a magnificent canvas on which to paint a love story, a canvas
offering the full spectral range of human emotion. The greatest of loves can only be
measured against the greatest of adversities, and the greatest of sacrifices thus defined.
Titanic in all her terrible majesty provides this as does no other historical event (From

The movie, Titanic is a love story, but it also acts on many different
levels. Rose Dewitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) is being suffocated under an engagement
with an arrogant, self-centered man, Cal Hockley (Billy Zane). We see Rose slowly
withering away, and she almost throws herself off the back of "Titanic", but is stopped by
Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio). This begins a cherished love story and takes us to
places on the "Titanic" that become special to their growing love. Jack saves Rose in ways
that she never thought possible.
During this time, we have a sense of dread because we have learned from history that "Titanic" is about to sink. We're drawn in emotionally because we know that not many third- class passengers, such as Jack survived the sinking. Rose and Jack struggle to stay together as the ship begins to sink, and they go down with it. In the end, you see Rose and Jack very much in love and emotionally connected for life. Rose's love for Jack is something that everyone lives for and hopes to experience. Their love will always go on. Kate Winslet is excellent in her Academy Award-nominated role as Rose Dewitt Bukater. Her character undergoes the most changes and she lets loose of the constricting rules of society. Leonardo DiCaprio portrays Jack Dawson to a tee. Leonardo's wild, care-free spirit shows through in Jack, as he begins to show Rose his way of life.
