Jim's Photo Page - About This Web Site

After requests from friends, family, and students, I have finally decided to put a photo album on line.

Like many of you, I take all kinds of photographs. Some of the photos on this site are carefully set up photographs that i worked hard to create. Most of these are nature and landscape photos.

Others are happy snaps - quick shots of a moment that are important mostly to those who were there and are included here for their enjoyment.

I hope you find something here that you enjoy!

A word about resolution. Photos with large file sizes appear sharper on a web page, but also take longer to load. I have tried to strike a balance between reasonable sharpness (enough for you to enjoy the picture) and a page that doesn't take too long to load.

Sunset On US 66, Yukon, Oklahoma

For 10 years I lived four blocks from the place where the pictures on this page were taken. A pizza place and a hamburger/ice cream establishment are (or were) located at the corner of Briarwood and old US 66. It was not unsual for me to run outside in the midst of a meal or snack to take a picture when the light was especially nice. That happened with the photo at the top of the page. I was eating supper with my family and it was raining outside. Then the clouds broke and the sun came out, turning the wet streets to liquid gold. I ran outside and took the picture.

Why is the web site on Angelfire? No profound reasons of great consequence, but three simple ones come to mind: free, simple to do, and short addresses.

Having a web page here is absolutely free (see the note about ads below).

It is simple to do. I didn’t know anything about html or web design (which should be obvious) when I posted the home page, and precious little now. I uploaded photo files (in jpeg), filled in one of the basic Angelfire page templates, filled in photo file names, typed text in the blocks, and the job was done. When I added the second page, I went to the Angelfire basic html guide to learn how to put web links in the text area. It was as simple as that.

Angelfire addresses are shorter than the addresses at some other free web hosting sites.

A word about ads. When I first put a page on Angelfire, there were no ads added to the pages. As you can see, that has changed. Since Angelfire doesn't get a single penny from me for hosting my web site, I suppose putting ads on my pages is a fair enough deal. They promise there will be no ads for sites with obscene, pornographic or other "adult" material. You may click or not click on these ads as you so choose. If you do leave, please bookmark my site so you can find your way back.

I intend to add to and change this site on a regular basis. Is there something you would like to see on this site? Send me an note at the email address below. Come back again!
