Jim’s Photo Page – Valley of Fire 1

Valley of Fire State Park is about an hours drive north of Las Vegas. The rock formations make for interesting compositions, and with the warm light that is possible at sunset, the rocks can take on a deep red glow. The newest saturated slide films really make the most of the possibilities. All of the pictures on this page were taken with Kodak Elite Chrome 100 slide film.

Red Rocks 1, Valley of Fire

All of the pictures on this page were taken in the same immediate area. I was attracted to the interesting rock formations which were only a short walk from the car. I focused on the two stone columns with the bowl-like slab of rock at the base.

Red Rocks 2, Valley of Fire

As the sun got closer to the horizon, I looked for rock formations that would give me deep shadows.

The Window, Valley of Fire

The sun had set from where I was but was still lighting the tops of a few formations when I found this window. We drove on to the visitor's center where we saw pictures of Elephant Rock. After asking how to find it, we arrived in the light of deep dusk, see Valley of Fire 2.
