Bloody Kisses

On the Album:
I'm not sure whether this or "October Rust" is my favorite album, but this one is good all around. Most fans do not know it, but there are two versions of this lp. The one most everyone is familiar with contains 14 tracks, while the other contains 8 and is sold in cardboard casing. Which one is better varies with the person. At times I like one more than the other. It all depends on my mood. The cardboard one is missing all the interludes, and "We hate everyone" and "kill all the white people". Yet the carboard version makes up for those with a previously unreleased song titled "Suspended in Dusk". The cardboard one also contains revamped lyrics by TON for summer breeze (more below). Despite the differences, they are both worth owning. Unless you did not really care for "Bloody Kisses" in the first place. If that's the case, then why are you here?

Tracks:
Black No. 1: This 10+ minute song has been labeled with many meanings. Peter Steele has related the song's theme of dying your hair with how people are stuck on image. It is actually a funny song, if you think about it. In "After Dark", Josh Silvers adds to the humour with his insight on the song. He adds that Black No. 1 is about the uprising of the black people and how one day Peter will come out of the desert and lead them. I like Peters' theme and feel the song is the ultimate put down for any old flame. Black No. 1 is a fan favorite, and one of TON's most well known songs.
Bloody Kisses (A death in the family): Another long, epic-like song. This used to be my favorite song when I first bought "Bloody Kisses". It was actually one of only two that I only like when I first bought the lp. After hearing and reading the lyrics, people will think it is obvious that this song is all about the loss of a loved one to suicide. However, this song was originally written by Peter Steele about one of his lost cats. Peter is supposedly a big fan of cats, and that was his original basis behind this song.
Can't lose you: I love this song, even though it consists of only four words repeated over. I read in some magazine (it might have been Rolling Stone, but I'm not sure) that they thought this song was great, but that it was downplayed from it's amount of four words. I feel it's great nonetheless. Like the title track "Bloody Kisses", this song was also written by Peter about his lost cat. Another note: you can hear a chant at the end of the song, but what is being said has never been clarified. It almost sounds like "everybody smokes pot"....I am not sure on what it is though. Hrmm...
Too late: Frozen: I have not really ever heard much on the meaning of this song. To me it just appears to be about a loved one asking for forgiveness, but "it's too late". I feel the best part of this song is the middle; where it slows down and you can hear the horses, etc...
Summer Breeze: Originally a Seals and Crofts song, this is covered very well by TON and has become one of their all-time favs. It was also hailed by critics as their best song on the album. In the cardboard release of "Bloody Kisses", the lyric sheet contains the revamped lyrics for this song TON was going to use. However Seals and Crofts rejected the idea, and the rest is history. What you have is a chilling song about hanging out in the summer. "Summer Breeze" has been used in the movie "I know what you did last summer".This way to the TON twist on "Summer Breeze".
Set me on fire: This, to me, has mentally became just part of "Summer Breeze". I feel they are both part of the same song.
Suspended in Dusk: This song is only available in the cardboard version of "Bloody Kisses". It is very dark, long and odd. Typical TON. I think a member of TON has said this is about a vampire who is asking God for forgiveness for the taking of human lives, something he obviously cannot control. I did not really care for this song too much at first, but after time this has actually became one of my favs of the album.
Christian Woman: Another fan favorite song. Peter stated this song was originally about a catholic girl masturbating. Definitely odd. This song has great transitions.
Blood and Fire: It appeard on the original "Mortal Kombat" soundtrack, and is possibly my favorite song on the album. It is actually one of the shortest songs, yet it still clocks in around three minutes or so. It is about losing a loved one and wanting no one else, since no one can compare. In my opinion it is one of Peter's best written songs. Blood and fire also clearly depicts Peter's "beg to serve" attitude.
Kill all the white people: This song is hilarious, and is one of the only songs on this album that sounds like their early style.
