JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP

Junior showmanship is a wonderful opportunity to introduce kids to the sport of showing dogs. This competition judges the junior's handling abilities rather than the conformation quality of his/her dog. Neutered dogs that may not be of a quality to win in the breed ring can compete in the Junior Showmanship ring with their favorite young person. A dog with a sound, willing temperment would be to the junior's advantage and retired champions who "know the ropes" can teach their young human charges how it should be done. Many of our professional handlers began learning their trade in the juniors ring. To learn more about Junior Showmanship click on the links below.

Megan Pickard's junior showmanship debut with Rowan at the DCSSA Specialty show in 1992, oh so many years ago.

Not bad for her first time in the ring! I swear that Rowan smiled on cue when the picture was taken.
