Lambs 2012-- The Tea Year

Lambing season was late this year, but once it started it started with a bang! Six lambs arrived 5-18-12.

Rosemary was first to lamb with a pretty little singleton girl. I was puzzled by her color until I figured out she's a moorit katmoget with a HST pattern. Lipton was the obvious choice for her name. Lipton has been sold.

Hot on Rosie's heels, Loblolly twinned. Orange Pekoe is a moorit katmoget girl and Earl Gray is a black katmoget boy and may be carrying a polled gene as he has only scurs.

Later that afternoon Caraway had a single moorit katmoget girl, Chamomile. I'll be curious to see what her fleece does as I don't recall seeing so much length on a newborn lamb before. Chamomile has also been sold, though she'll remain here until weaned.

Dresden dropped a pair of black girls with white head markings, Oolong and Lapsang. All of these lambs were sired by Tamarack (fawn katmoget), he was very busy five months ago.

We got a two day break, then 3 more lambs arrived 5-20-12.

Magnolia had a pair of girls; Red Rose, a moorit katmoget and Peppermint, black with white head markings.

Nutmeg had a LARGE black ram lamb, Wintergreen, who I expect will gray out (look at his sugar lips). He was the first to be sired by Mercury.

The next day Ethel had twins and FINALLY gave me a girl, so why is the boy the prettier of the two? Jasmine is black and brother Darjeeling is moorit, sired by Mercury. This is Ethel's last year lambing, time for the old girl to retire.

Calais had a single moorit girl 5-22-12. Constant Comment is already giving her mother fits. Why do lambs hide themselves and ignore their mother's frantic baas? Constant Comment is also sired by Mercury.

5-24-12 Mimosa's twin black rams arrived, Ceylon is the one with the crimpier fleece, though brother, Rooibos, is crimpy at the skin. It will be interesting to see who has the better fleece in a few months.

Marjoram's twin girls are peas in a pod. They are white, though Lemongrass has more phaeo pigmentation than Tetley. Their sire is Mercury. Mercury was a lovely ram lamb, he was unfortunately killed in a ram attack late this winter.

Cherry saved the best for last. Though she had a single, he's a lovely little moorit katmoget ram lamb. Chai is sired by Tamarack and looks like a keeper to me.
