NMGMS October Minutes by Rena Everett, Secretary Christmas Party features good friends, good food, good cheer
The December meeting of the North Mississippi Gem and Mineral Society was held at the University Museums in Oxford, Mississippi on December 15, 2001.
After 15 members and two guests enjoyed our delicious potluck Christmas luncheon, President Floy Hawkins called the business meeting to order at about 1:30 p.m. She announced that she had received the new William Holland catalog and that it was available for those who are interested to see.
The January meeting will be held at Wood College in Mathiston at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2002.
Since no one had brought any suggestions for a club logo, that decision was postponed until a later date. It was also moved seconded, and unanimously approved that we put off any discussion about whether or not the club should "light" until March. Since there was only one junior present, it was also decided that we would also put off naming our junior group until March.
Floy announced that she had appointed a nominating committee for next year's officers. Those appointed each represent a separate area of our
club's influence. They are Mary Reed, Ruby Marshall,
and George Everett. All of the present officers, |
except the vice president, have agreed to serve another year; so the committee's work will not be so difficult.
Floy and Patti Thompson are checking out the possibilities for a gem
identification class at Ittawamba Community College. Rena Everett announced that at the IMAX at the Pink Palace in Memphis, Tenn., they are presenting T-Rex: Back to the Cretacesous. It is playing now and will continue through March 1.
George Everett thanked everyone for their contributions for Toys for Tots. The toys will be delivered to the collections spot at the Alumni House
tomorrow. Floy welcomed our two guests, Ellen Everett and Bobby Criss. The meeting was adjourned at 2 p.m., after which the members enjoyed a gift exchange and
participated in the silent auction.
Addendum: Treasurer Shirley Randle reported a balance in the treasury of $319.13.
Respectfully submitted,
Rena Everett, Secretary
