Day 9 finds La Mina tribe busy in the morning. Fires are started by Terry, chores done by others. Sally feels vulnerable after the young guys, Nick and Austin, sided with Dan and Terry to boot Misty instead of Ruth Marie. With Misty gone, Sally has no real allies anymore. Dan walks the beach with Ruth Marie, telling her that she will be part of the post-merge Final Five. Ruthie is happy to hear that!
Over at Casaya, Aras, Bruce, and Shane return from their morning foraging to find Courtney doing exercises, and the rest snoozing. Cirie and Courtney do start tending to the fire, but Shane and Aras begin complaining. Aras tells Uncle Cameraman that he's had enough of Courtney and wants her gone. Cirie is enjoying the inter-alliance bickering. She's planning to fly under the radar.
This episode's Reward Challenge consists of gathering six, large puzzle pieces which are moored off shore, one at a time. Players cannot begin obtaining the next piece until the present piece is successfully brought into a holding area. The puzzles may not be solved until all six pieces are recovered. The prize is a Survivor outhouse and shower, courtesy of Charmins. The set-up comes complete with towels, shampoo, back-scrubber, five gallons of fresh water, and of course, plenty of Charmins toilet paper. It's a close race with La Mina in the lead a couple of times but Casaya never far behind. In the end, Casaya squeaks out a victory. They choose Terry to spend two days on Exile Island, in revenge for La Mina forcing Bruce there twice in a row.
La Mina sulks back to camp. Dan tries to rally the tribe, but everyone has differ- ent ideas on what needs being done. Dan thinks they need firewood. Sally thinks they need food. Austin wants to take a nap. It becomes obvious fast that La Mina will have problems while Terry is away.
Over at Casaya, they inspect their new addition. Everyone seems ready to take advantage of their shower and outhouse, known as Casa de Charmin. Aras wants them to hold on, and thinks the outhouse would make a dandy, dry place to store firewood. Bobby announces that he has to "dump a deuce" and pro- ceeds to do so. Everyone is startled by this, especially Danielle. She complains to Uncle C that Bobby is no gentleman and always does whatever he wants to do. Shane is giddy with the thought of Terry alone on Exile Island. Speaking of which, we then cut to find Terry reading the clues provided. These include all previous clues which Misty and Bruce had. Terry begins to work them out, and is hot on the trail for the hidden immunity idol. His exploration leads him to a wooded area. A recurring theme in the clues is the word "WHY", which is always accented. Terry looks about mouthing "WHY" and then sees it. A Y-shaped tree. It's under a big Y! I guess Exile Island doesn't have any trees shaped like a W? Terry starts digging and sure enough, finds the idol! He celebrates by starting a fire.
Day 10 and more social unrest at Casaya. This time, Shane picks a fight with Danielle. He sarcastically remarks about her aversion to labor. She shoots back claiming to do plenty of work. Shane gets backed up by Aras. Danielle turns to Cirie, who just says some people do more than others and walks away. Cirie doesn't want to get in the middle of in-fighting. She thinks they are all crazy.
Day 11 finds La Mina getting hungry. Nick, who seems to be the only one who knows how to fish other than Terry, thinks that they have three days till starva- tion sets in. Without food, La Mina will crash and be unable to function. On top of the lack of food, they're having trouble getting their fire to ignite. It seems that they need Terry more than he needs any of them. The whole tribe is just depressed and going through the motions.
Its time for the Immunity Challenge. The goal in this week's event is to fill a drum of water sufficiently to counter-balance one tribe member's weight as she sits on a chair. When it reaches the right level of water, the drum will fall and raise the sitter up the scaffolding where she releases a pin that unfurls a flag. Danielle and Ruth Marie are the sitters. Nick and Cirie are the fillers on the top by the drum. They must raise a large bucket after it's filled by tribe members who must fetch water while crossing a balance beam. These members are paired up and tied to each other with a few feet of line. Each carries two pails to fill with water at the beach before making a return trip. The balance-beam- course is set up with an intersection that only allows one pair to traverse at a time. Same is true for the Exit points. Shane and Courtney are paired up as well as Bruce and Aras for Casaya. Bobby sits this one out. For La Mina, it's Sally and Austin along with Dan and Terry. The race is a close one, with both tribes exchanging leads. But in the end, Casaya, again, squeaks out a victory!
Back at camp, La Mina tribe licks their pride. They also question Terry about Exile Island. He reveals that you are given all the clues. Naturally, he doesn't volunteer that he found the idol, nor does anyone ask him directly, sparing him the need to lie. Meanwhile, Sally feels vulnerable, and makes a pitch to Terry about staying around. Austin then works on Terry on Sally's behalf. He argues that Sally is stronger and more athletic. Terry seems to agree, but knows that Dan had promised Ruth Marie a place in their alliance. When Terry talks with Dan, Dan argues back that it's a question of loyalty. Dan trusts Ruthie to remain true to them and suspects that Sally will turn against them after The Merge. Nick feels bad about the whole situation. He doesn't like that promises are being broken. Ruth Marie confides to Uncle Cameraman that while she's confident about staying, she knows that there is a lot of discussion going on.
At Tribal Council, Jeff asks Terry about his stay on Exile Island. Terry says that it was interesting and seems no worse for it. Austin admits to missing Terry's leadership while exiled. Sally makes her case for staying about giving her all in the challenges. Ruth Marie then argues back that she is loyal and that counts more. It's time to vote. Ruthie and Dan vote to boot Sally, the rest vote off Ruth Marie. Jeff tells them that despite all their setbacks, La Mina still seems to have a positive attitude and urges them onward.
SPOILERS: La Mina tribe gets hit with stomach issues. Looks like Austin either drank bad water or is starving. Over at Casaya, Courtney violates Bruce's meditation space and the tribe has problems keeping their fire going.
