It's Night 14 at Malakal Tribe and Erik is very unhappy the rest booted off his ally, Joel. He thinks the Faves of his tribe have become too powerful. LOL! Like they wouldn't had they booted Chet off as planned? Oh well…
Day 15 finds Chet and Tracy also mulling over the voting off of Joel. They now realize the Faves outnumber them four to three. They talk with Erik about trying to turn one Fave over to their side. Tracy chats-up Ami, who is prepared to keep her options open. Over at Airai Tribe, Eliza and Jon discuss targeting James or Parvati for going home, before they merge and team up with Ozzy and Amanda again.
It's time for the Reward Challenge. Both tribes will swim out to a platform and bring back bundles of planks and ropes. They will then get ten minutes to create obstructions in the other tribe's bamboo tunnel. Each tribe must then clear the path and get all members through. First tribe to get everyone to the Finish Mat wins a visit from two Micronesian survival-fishing experts. Natalie sits out for Airai, even though Jon is hurting. He feels his cleverness is needed. Both tribes swim out, except for Jon, who stays ashore. The race to get the bundles back is pretty even with Malakal only having a slight lead. After the ten minutes of constructing obstacles, Malakal, again, appears to be developing a lead. But Airai only removes enough of the obstructions in their tunnel to permit people to squeeze through. They start getting members through the tunnel quicker. Even Jon worms his through. Airai Wins!!! They select Chet to go to Exile Island and Jason volunteers to go with him.
But before Airai leaves, Jeff tells Jon the doctor is here to look at his leg. She looks and reports that an infection is developing. Simple oral antibiotics will not suffice. The wound must be surgically cleaned, in a hospital, and then followed up with intravenous antibiotics. It means leaving The Game. Jon doesn't want to. But the doctor says that without immediate treatment, he could lose his left leg, and even die. That settles that. Jon says his good- byes to Airai Tribe. Even Jeff is thoughtful as he escorts him to the boat.
Airai return to their beach, saddened by the loss of Jon. The two experts then arrive, Joe and Edwin. They bring with them fishing lines and nets, a paring knife, another machete, spices and fresh fruit. Right away, they start teaching Airai the secrets to successful fishing. At Malakal Tribe, Ozzy, Amanda and Cirie complain about how pitiful the Fan members are. Ami goes to Tracy and pledges her support to boot Cirie. Erik joins them and agrees to help boot Cirie. Ozzy tells Uncle Cameraman that he hopes Jason finds the fake idol he left on Exile Island.
Speaking of which, Chet is not feeling well. One foot is starting to swell and hurt after he had stepped on some coral the other day. While he crashes on the beach, Jason goes clue hunting. He finds all the clues and then finds where the hidden immunity idol had once been. But in the sack is the fake idol Ozzy made. All Ozzy did was carve a small length of wood and gouged a set of eyes and a mouth on it. The thing looks like something a newbie cub scout could carve in his sleep. But Jason thinks it the Real McCoy! What an idiot! LOL!!! That evening, back at Airai, Joe and Edwin catch a few crabs and adds them to the fish they caught earlier. They cook up a delicious fish stew using the seasonings they brought. The gang have a feast to celebrate their good fortune.
Day 17 (I guess nothing special happened on Day 16) and it's time for the Immunity Challenge. Jason and Chet return from Exile Island and they and the rest of Malakal Tribe learn about Jon being evacuated. Jeff reports that the surgery went well and Jon is recovering nicely. Jeff asks Jason how the idol hunting went? Jason answers that he thinks Ozzy found the idol. Ozzy remains stoic.
The challenge is for each tribe to transport two members off shore, first to one platform using two 'stepping poles'. Basically long, enlarged golf-tee like things. Then, once they get both members there, all the members must swim to a higher platform and ascend it. The space on the top will only hold five people, but they must somehow squeeze all seven. First to accomplish this feat wins immunity. Malakal uses the stepping poles as intended. But Airai takes a different approach. Eliza perches herself on top one pole and the rest, mostly James, hold her up and carry the pole to the first platform. They get her there quickly and then repeat the process with Natalie. But she is a bit bulkier and not as steady. The first attempt fails at the foot of the platform. They have to go back to the starting point and begin again. On the second try, they do succeed and win!
At Malakal Beach, they discuss Jon's departure. Chet chimes in that he thinks he'll need surgery also. He believes his right foot is injured and may becoming infected as well. He asks that everyone votes him off tonight. This makes Tracy and Erik unhappy. They were counting on Chet's vote, along with Ami's, to vote off Ozzy. They all suspect that Ozzy does have the immunity idol and figure that Ozzy won't expect being booted tonight. Erik pleads with Chet to hang in and help them boot Ozzy. Chet listens and says he'll think about it, but he has defeat written all over his face. He has not done well since Day One.
At Tribal Council, they begin talking about Jon's sudden departure. All were sad to hear the news. They knew he was a fighter and a good player. Erik admits that he believes Jason's remarks that Ozzy may have the hidden immunity idol. Ozzy does not admit it but adds that everyone knows that Chet is being voted off tonight. If he, Ozzy, should get blind-sided, then he'll dive off the ramp naked! LOL!!! Chet chimes in with the observation that every time the obvious boot-target was spared so far. This gets a weird look from Ozzy. Amanda adds that while she's confident about tonight's vote, one can never be absolutely certain. It's time to vote. Chet and Tracy vote to boot Erik??? Guess they had to vote for someone. The rest grant Chet his wish and send him to obtain comfort and attention.
SPOILERS: Next week is all about struggling. The Fans at Malakal, all of Airai, and Kathy herself, are all having a difficult time.
