"Survivor Review" is a private fan site and is no way affiliated with CBS or Mark Burnett Productions.  Many of the pictures and graphics are taken from the official CBS "Survivor Thailand" website, as well as other sites, such as "CBS Early Show".  This site's intent is not to infringe on any copyrighted or trademarked material, only to review and speculate on a TV series which has captured our imaginations.

If you haven't heard by now, Brian won "Survivor:  Thailand".  It was
a close call, but he squeaked out a victory.  Here is how Episode 13
unfolded:

We begin with a seven minute introduction, narrated by Jeff Probst,
showing highlights of all that has transpired in the past 36 days of
game-play.  I have to wonder why I bothered watching these last 12
weeks?

Night 36:  After the commercial break, we join our intrepid castaways
as they walk back to camp after stabbing Ted in the back.  And did
they ever stab him!  It was almost Shakespearean in design.  Clay
observes that Ted didn't say much after being voted off.  Gee, I wonder
why?  Maybe he was mad???  It turns out that the foursome had been
playing Ted all along, never intending him to get past 5th place.

Day 37 and it's a double tree mail day.  First, they get flowers and
craft-making supplies to construct Thai krathongs, sort of floating
tributes to those who have passed on.  They busy themselves making
krathongs for each of the 'Fallen Survivors' who have been voted out
of The Game.  While Jan and Helen go off to retrieve a second tree
mail message, Clay and Brian discuss strategy.  They plot on going
all the way.

The second tree mail announces it's time for the next Immunity Chal-
lenge, the standard 'Super-Challenge', combining elements of previ-
ous events.  Clay jumps out to an early lead.  Brian eventually catches
up to him after taking forever in the first segment.  He blows by Helen
and Jan, who are having great difficulty crossing over balancing beams
in the second segment of the challenge.  Brian eventually passes Clay
and wins, eating a baked tarantula in the last segment.

Helen is upset.  She kicks herself all over the beach for losing.  Brian
sees this and just adds to the distrust of her he already has.  Ever
since her road trip with Ted three days ago, Brian has been suspicious
of her every move.  While Helen storms off to beat herself up some
more, Brian and Clay hatch their scheme to ditch Helen.  They then
talk with Jan, assuring her that she is safe and that Helen is their new
target.  With a main course of reason, and a side order of intimidation,
they tell Jan that the smart move for her is to go along and vote with
them.  Jan is spent, emotionally and physically.  She answers that she
understands but needs time to think about it.

Helen comes back and notices that Jan is upset and moping about.
She talks with Brian and Clay, first about sticking with their alliance
and voting Jan off next, then about talking with Jan before Tribal
Council.  Helen thinks it's the honorable thing to do.  Brian and Clay
disagree, and tell Helen just to leave Jan alone.

Tribal Council and Jeff asks each if they feel safe?  Clay is rather
honest about it.  He's worried, but the name of the game is winning
that million dollars, and he'll do whatever it takes to win.  Jan doesn't
think she's lied to anyone.  Even when Jeff prods her about voting off
Ted, she responds that she never had an alliance with him, and they
didn't talk before the vote.  Brian says he's never lied, but has changed
his mind when hearing how others were plotting to betray him.  Helen
says she's definitely been lied to.  It's time to vote.

Helen goes down in flames, with all three voting her off.  She cast her
vote for Jan.  She tells the camera at the confessional how mad she
is, especially at Brian.  The others walk back to camp, and Jan thanks
'The Boys' for keeping her around.  Brian explains that Helen was safe
up until the last few days.  She got antsy and became unreliable.  They
then get a late-night tree mail with items for Helen's krathong.  My,
that was quick!

Day 38 and Jeff arrives with a special boat, outfitted with three um-
brellas, and a map.  The Final Three must gather up the krathongs and
row along the shore, releasing the krathongs as they go along.  This
rite of passage is to commemorate the 'Fallen Survivors'.  They do
so, and then make their way to a cave, where Jeff awaits them for the
last Immunity Challenge.  It's endurance time.

Each contestant is given six coins, which are to be held between the
fingers, three per hand.  They then get inside a wooden framework,
that resembles some bizarre bondage fetish device, and hold a pose
with arms stretched out.  The last one to hold the coins wins.  Jeff
chats with them to help them focus.  Brian doesn't need any help.  He
is as cool as a cucumber.  Jan lets go first, followed shortly by Clay.
Brian wins the last immunity.  He will decide who he faces in the
Final Two.

Walking back to camp, each describes the pain they endured in this
last event.  Clay is confident Brian will take him along.  He actually
thinks that Brian would have an easier time beating Jan than him.
What gall!  You gotta love it!

Tribal Council time, and Jeff questions them.  Jan talks about the
krathong ceremony, and how the most moving moment for her was
when they released Helen's float.  Helen didn't seem to pleased about
it.  Clay talks about himself, naturally, and how everyone has had fun
in experiencing The Game.  Jeff then asks Brian about his choice for
tonight.  Brian answers that it's a choice between doing business
versus friendship.  In the end, it's all about business.  Brian votes off
Jan.  He and Clay now advance to The Grand Finale.
