Night 38 finds Rob and Amber back at camp, cuddling by the fire. They've made it! The Finalists! All the game playing and strategy have paid off. Amber is happy to be with Rob. He makes her feel so special and secure. She reflects on their alliance, and how her flirting evolved into something more. Rob also recalls their moments toge- ther. The closeness, the trust, he couldn't have made it without her. He also considers how much The Jury hates him.
Day 39, the last day. Amber and Rob hang out and take more pictures and finish the scrapbook. They walk the beach one last time. Rob goes fishing and catches Amber's favorite color fish, blue. How nice is he??? Rob cleans the fish and says he didn't need Rupert at all. He compares The Game with Darwin. How very astute of him! He says that he and Amber have the right survival skills, and the ability to adapt and evolve. He knows that The Jury is going to get very per- sonal at Tribal Council. But Rob has no regrets on how he played.
The Final Tribal Council. Jeff congratulates Romber for making it this far. He gives each their chance for opening statements. Rob is first. He knows that The Jury is pissed at him. He props himself up as a good player. Amber then addresses them, saying that she knows this will be hard on her for her actions. But she in satisfied with how she played The Game.
Lex is the first juror to speak. He immediately attacks Romber about them using the phrase, "It's Just A Game". Lex says that The Game is a truth serum and exposes the lies. He asks Rob, rhetorically, what sort of friend he is? He vows to never be friends with Rob again.
Kathy is next and picks up where Lex left off. She asks Rob if he's concerned with how he'll be perceived? Rob responds that he is con- cerned. He became caught up in The Game. He never intended to hurt anyone or ruin friendships. Kathy asks Amber how real her rela- tionship is with Rob? Was she just playing him or does she have genuine feelings? Amber answers that she does have true feelings for Rob, and intends to pursue it after The Game. Kathy ends with telling Rob how much he crushed her with his betrayal. She saw him as a second son. Rob has damaged their relationship.
Rupert then steps up and the tone changes. He congratulates them both and thanks them for honoring their Final Four alliance. He asks Amber why he should vote for her? She answers that she played well and never lost her focus. Rob answers the same question by remind- ing Rupert that he is a man of his word. Presumably, they had a deal beforehand on voting, and Rupert had promised to vote for Rob.
Alicia picks up the baseball bat and swings. She trashes Romber and calls them butt-kissers and ego-strokers. Alicia demands one-word definitions on how each played. Rob says "Competitively", Amber says, "Lucky". Alicia scowls and storms off.
Shii Ann congratulates Romber and objectively reminds her fellow jurors about throwing stones in glass houses. She knows that Lex and Kathy used the same logic as Romber for ditching Colby, Ethan, and Jerri. Shii Ann says she's still undecided, and wants three rea- sons why she should vote for the other. Rob answers that Amber was loyal, trusting, and supportive. Amber answers that Rob was compe- titive, trusting, and loyal. Yawn!
Jenna congratulates both and asks what they'll do with the money? Rob is a volunteer coach for an in-line hockey team. He'll use some of the money for setting up a scholarship. Amber says she knows many people with muscular dystrophy and will donate some money to that cause.
Big Tom struts up and after a sarcastic congratualtion, rips into Rob. He's mad as hell at Rob betraying him. Tom then asks Amber why he should vote for her over Rob? Amber replies that while she only had a limited alliance with Tom, Rob was his main alliance and his principle betrayer. Her lies to Tom were of a lesser dergree. Tom is amused by this. Tom starts ripping Rob again, but Rob has had enough and calls Tom a liar. Rob claims that Tom had been plotting to vote him off, so he struck first. Tom almost shakes hands with Rob but fakes him out. "Don't call me stupid, stupid!"
Jeff then gives Romber a chance for final statements. Amber is first with a feel-good about how much she has learned about herself and that she'll apply it in life. She's sorry for the hard feelings she may have caused. The Jury has the satisfaction that tonight she was honest with them. Rob apologizes for the hurt he caused. He played The Game as hard as he could. Rob knows he screwed up and he is sorry.
It's time to vote. We see a few of the votes. Kathy holds up Rob's name and says she's a sucker. She hopes he'll grow up and will re- pair the emotional damage he caused. Tom votes for Amber and wishes her well. Jenna votes for Rob and wishes him well. Alicia holds up Amber's name and reminds Rob of her promise to never write down his name. Jeff picks up the urn and boards a helicopter.
Cut scene to New York City. Jeff stands on the chopper's runners as he flies by Lady Liberty, and skyscrapers. Arriving at Madison Square Gardens to a huge crowd, Jeff emcees the mayhem. He notices that Amber is wearing an "I *Heart* (Love) Rob" T-shirt. She admits to be- ing in love and kisses her fella. Rob then asks Amber to marry him. She hugs and kisses him again. Rob goes on bended knee and puts a nice sized rock on her finger.
Jeff tries to regain control of the show and declares that this is NOT the new big twist promised. He finally tallies the vote. Amber wins, 4 to 3. After the big hug-everyone scene, and a commercial break, Jeff asks Rupert why they never voted Romber off earlier? Rupert first roars to the crowd, who cheer wildly for him. Many are wearing tie-dyed T-shirts. Rupert answers that while a few considered the option, nobody could muster the votes needed to boot Rob or Amber. Lex is boohed by the audience when Jeff wants his justification for why what Rob did is worse than what Lex did with Colby, Ethan, and Jerri. Lex's answer was that he never had alliances with them and they didn't fit into "His Plan". Richard trashes Lex's reasoning. Hatch says it's just a game, and you play to win. If you have to beat a friend, then that's what you do. Kathy tries to explain Lex's reason- ing, so Richard trashes her, too.
Rob confronts Tom on if he had a pre-game alliance with Lex. Tom dances around the issue, saying that he's sure there were lots of phone calls between players beforehand. Tom says that he was loyal to Romber. Jerri starts to make a point about how the show is enter- tainment at the expense of personal feelings and lives. But the audi- ence still hates her from Australia and shouts her down with boos. During the next commercial break, Jerri leaves, upset with the crowd.
Jeff questions and determines that Shii Ann was the deciding vote for Amber. Since Romber both won cars, Amber gives Shii Ann a new Chevy Equinox SUV. We then get some updates on Jenna M, who's doing well and dating Ethan, Jenna L, who got married over the week- end. Sue had an extreme make-over. Richard found love behind the front desk at an Argentine hotel. Rudy is glad he got voted off early or he would've have killed someone. Colby knows he didn't play as hard as he should have.
The Finale ends with the new, Big Twist. The viewing audience will get a chance to award any one of the 18 players with a second, one million dollar prize. They can use Cingular text-messaging their choice to 26161, or vote on-line till midnight, Wednesday, May 12th. The winner will be revealed on Thursday night, May 13th, with another live show. We will also learn the location of the next Survivor season. Jeff also tells us that they are now casting for Survivor 10! The mad- ness continues!
Thank goodness! I was worried that contract negotiations were going to end The Game. Looks like I'll have a job for another year!
