A Softly Played Note

If I were to fold your message down
Tucking all the phrases
Into the hem of my silk gown
Is it worth what heart appraises?.

Priceless turning of the tongue
Moon's-pull reflected in your eyes
A lifetime's doubts had come undone
You make true another's lies

As in my cherished estimate
You bring the kindest death
A softer word's not spoken yet
Than the rhythm of your breath
