One By One

When you pull
The petals from a rose,
Each one plucked and pulled.
Layer after layer onfolded,
Like the layers of ourselves.
Laying away the petals,
That we show to the world.
With each one plucked,
We see a more beautiful
And elegant petal beneath.
These disguarded petals are battered.
Abused and torn by a cruel world.
Deeper toward the center, More perfect.
Till at last we arrive
At a pure and true center,

Our Souls.....
