I'm sick of Shakespeare! I don't care if he is in love or not!
Gweneth Paltrow did not deserve her award nor did this movie. Oh, the costumes were great as was the setting but my god, let's stop the Shakespeare movies already.
If you would like to see an awsome movie based on the 19th century, see the movie Elizabeth
This movie was great!! The actors, the settings and the costumes were breath-taking.
This movie is about Queen Elizabeth and the trying things that she had to deal with as a woman trying to be taken seriously to rule a man's country. I have a great deal of respect for her and she is a great role model for all women.
The other movie had a simple story behind it.... a playwriter has a block and falls in love with a woman that disguises herself as a boy so she can act in his play.
Come on!!! Isn't there enough movies about that same storyline? To name a few Tootsie, Yental, Just One of the Guys Enough I say!!
The reason I compare the 2 movies is this: Shakespeares in Love's character didn't impress me as woman over-coming woman's rights. I believe if they added 15 more minutes to the movie, that she would've been thrown in jail or beheaded for decieving her Queen and committing audultery.
Rather than Elizabeth learning and accepting that she is a Queen and she does have the power to change things.
