DELBERT COLLINS


Delbert Collins was born in West Virginia October 26th 1910 and passed away in Foley Alabama on March 19th 2002. He started his musical career when he was eight years old. He moved to Detroit when he was twenty two years old. He then went to work for General Motors at which time he started his band known as The Sap Suckers that played in the Detroit area until his retirement from GM. Upon retiring he moved to Gladwin Michigan and joined in with the Honeybee Stinger Band.

Delbert Collins has entertained and promoted Country Music nearly all of his life! He spent summers in Michigan and winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama. In Alabama he spent his time entertaining folks down there. Delbert Collins is best known for the unique instrument he built himself and plays....it's an amplified guitar made from a real toilet seat. Every where he went audiences enjoyed his unique and entertaining way of performing.

Delbert Collins was inducted into the Michigan Country Music Hall of Fame during ceremonies held at Prairieville's Farm Days Memorial Day Weekend 1997.



Delbert Lewis Collins is buried at the White Chapel Cemetary in Troy Michgan
