HANK WALKER

Hank Walker of Mt. Morris, Michigan was born in Kennett, Missouri, December 22nd, 1929. He moved to Flint, Michigan in 1949 and worked at Chevrolet Truck until his retirement in 1983. He sings traditional country, gospel and bluegrass music. This versatile musician plays guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass, steel and dobro guitar. In 1964, Hank recorded "Fields Are White", "Green and Silent Valley", and "Mother's Love Will Guide Me" on National Records Nashville, Tennessee.

Hank's musical influences were Red Foley, Hank Williams, Sr., Kitty Wells, Ernest Tubb and "Little" Jimmy Dickens. Hank's favorite country singers are Lorretta Lynn, George Jones, and Alan Jackson. Hank has been in country music for 50 years and has appeared for benefits, festivals and various country music shows; Ohio Barn Dance, Cleveland; Flushing Michigan Fall Festivals/ Candlewalks; senior centers and nursing homes in Flint, Montrose, Clio, Flushing, Burton, Grand Blanc and Mt. Morris, Michigan and Flint, Mi. Bluegrass Festivals; He often performs with the "Shades of Blue" and "Bluebird Country" bands, among others. Hank has also helped organize are jamborees and fundraisers.

Honors include: "Honorary Kentucky Colonel"; 1997 Michigan Country Music Association & Services' "Lifetime Achievement Award"; 1997 Bluebird Country News' "Lifetime Achievement Award"; and 1998 "Musician/Comedian" award; and was inducted into the "Michigan Country Music Hall of Fame" on June 30th, 2000.
