Jerry Writes...........

I was born in 1932, in Beal City, Michigan. I grew up on a farm and spent most of my time helping run the family farm. At the early age of 13, I received my first mandolin. My folks traded an old instrument they had, for some lessons from a neighbor.

About the age of 15, I took up the guitar which was my brothers! He showed me a few chords and then after quite a bit of practice, we formed our first band. I have had several bands since then ranging from two to five pieces. We played all over the central Michigan area.

I also was a D.J. at Radio Station WCRM in Clare, Michigan where I also had my own radio show every Saturday afternoon.

Jerry Schafer owned and operated Schafer Music House in Mt. Pleasant from 1966 to 1990. He is now retired and still performs music....which is his biggest past time!

Jerry has been married nearly 50 years and is the father of 7 children and grandfather to 14 little ones of whom he is VERY proud!

Jerry Schafer was nominated for the Michigan Country Music Hall of Fame in September of 1996, and inducted in May of 1997 in Prairieville, Michigan Home of the Michigan Farmer's Hall of Fame and new home of the Michigan Country Music Hall Of Fame! Jerry considers this induction as one of his greatest honors!
