1. Names and postition. Glokkis-Vocals. Eggz Benedict-Guitar/Vocals. The Late Prof. Arlo Pickens; Savior-Bass/Vocals/Move Bustin'. Rev. Doktor Baron Von Krapptauer- Drums/Vocals/Senseless Banter/Senseful Banter.
2. How did your band form?
I received a call to play a show with my old band Die EeYoRE, which broke up so My roommates And I (Dr. Smoothe, Ryan Gelatin, Frenchie Chaps) went downstairs and made up 5 songs and learned 2 covers and played the show a week later. Since then there have been many members changes and position changes. Prof. Arlo Pickens put it best when he said "Cobra Yout is an entity that will always be there no matter who plays in the band. It's not me, it's not you, it's not the rest of them. It just always is".
3. How do you go about writing songs?
Nowadays, I (Baron) write most of the songs. I usually just screw around on a guitar until I make something I like, then screw around until it's totally different. Then I bring it to practice and show it to the rest of Cobra Youth. Then we screw aound with it until it's totally different. Then we play it faster and faster until it's totally different. Then either I, myself come up with words or (more likely) someone else (the singer) comes up with words and there ya have it, sonic terrorism.
4. What is your favorite venue?
Probably the Elbow Room in Ypsilanti. It's like home. I feel like Norm going to Cheers when I go there (between you and me, I kinda look like him too, if you squint a little). It's a nice comfortable place that all our friends go to and all our friends bands play at. There are no monitors or things like that to get in the way of us doing what we do. Drinks are moderately priced and the bartenders are moderately generous.
5. what is the shittiest venue?? Probably the Magic Stick in Detroit. We aren't quit punk rock elitist enough to get anybody to listen there (boo hoo). If you play on Mondays you play for drinks instead of cash which is nice if the bartender knows that the case or if a they even know that you are playing. It's just a fuckin' hassle all around.
6. What are your beliefs on religion and/or politics? Praise "Bob" and all others be damned!
7. Band members influences.
I listen to alot of old hardcore punk and speed/death metal, more maetal nowadays. Eggz listens to punk and black metal. Arlo listens to everything...really. Glokkis listens to pretty much everything underground-punk, black metal, heavy metal...anything that, with a good sense of humor, you could laugh at.
8. Bands you think blow.
Bands that I think blow are bands that only try to recreate another bands sound. Sure, all bands are gonna have a sound and are gonna sound sorta likeother bands. But, it's the drive to make something original out of your influences that makes a good band. I don't necessarily care to dis other bands. I just wish that people in bands could figure out what noise they like to come out of instruments that they hear other bands using and make something up that sounds good to them. Don't live by other bands boundries.
9. Future plans.
Unite people under the flag of COBRA to fight against "Them" and the oppersion that "They" enforce. To make a beer that tastes great, that less filling, has more alcohol and has a Cobra symbol on the label. Play all over the damn place too.
10. Self-aggrandizing statement.
We have more Slack than any other band in the Detroit/Ypsi-Arbor area and are willing to prove it by doing absolutely nothing to anyone else that disputes our claim and attempts to make it themselves. Praise "Bob".
