Some links for all to enjoy...
Be prepared to spend a LOT of time at these sites. Some are really hard to
break away from! Of course, you'll want to
peruse the Ring as well as these
sites, so bookmark this page for easy reference! If you have any suggestions
of sites you think should be included here, email me.
- Detroit Focus, an artists' organization, is currently concentrating on a HUGE photography project, Detroit Focus 2000. Galleries all over the Detroit Metro area will be displaying photography, by both local and national artists, during November, 2000. All the details are at this website, so if you're a photographer, if you have a gallery, or if you just want to know where to spend your time next fall, check it out!
- The Ruins of Detroit
- It's a tour of Detroit without the pot holes. Seriously, this site
offers a chance to revisit many architectural memories and to view some
of the ruins that are still standing in and around Detroit. I really highly
recommend this site. And then, get in your car and have a look around!
- Panorama
of Detroit, 1906 - This incredibly detailed page
documents what our city was like at the (last) turn of the century. It is
based on a historic panoramic photo that was taken from Campus Martius in
1906, but it includes many other historic photos as well as personal histories
submitted by visitors like you.
- The Heidelberg Project
- This site not only shows the Heidelberg Project and what it's about,
but it also provides a link to artist Tyree Guyton's site so you can see
some of his other work.
- The Detroit Institute of Arts
- For me, standing in front of Van Gogh's self-portrait and seeing his
fingerprints in the paint is like religion...
- Public Radio, WDET 101.9 FM, and
Public Television, WTVS, Channel 56
- Detroit Symphony Orchestra
- The Michigan Opera Theater
-
Art Center Music School
- Another good school in town
- The Writers Voice
- Local literary culture.
- Detroit Music - All kinds
of information about local music, including a calendar and a listing
of music (instrument) stores.
- The Metro Times - Goings-on
and so forth...
