"All Night Long"
Episode Summary
"All Night Long"
Written by: Therese Beaupre
Directed by: Jane E. Thompson
Aired on Nickelodeon: January 14, 2001 at 8:00 p.m.
My Overall Opinion of the Episode:
There are too many things in this episode that seem "out of character."
For example, if Caitlin has never cared what people think about her,
why
does she suddenly care so much in this episode? Also, other episodes
present
Caitlin as being a fan of artistic and aggressive rock music. I have a
hard
time
believing that her character also likes boy bands! Nevertheless, "All
Night
Long" is an okay episode that shows what can go wrong when pride and
ego
get in the way of common sense.

Episode Summary:
It's time once again for the annual school dance and Caitlin finds
herself wondering why no one has asked her to go. She feels that she is
outside of it all and she feels very much like a looser. Griffen,
Brett, and Eric get the opportunity to perform their music at the
school dance. Griffen decides to use the boy band sound. However, Eric
and Brett
invite Jordan to join the band and perform rap at the dance. This is
something that Griffen becomes very upset about. Meanwhile, Caitlin
knows
Danny O'Donoghue, a member of a popular boy band called "mytown." She
contacts Danny and the band agrees to perform at the dance. The band,
however, gets lost and doesn't arrive at the school until well after
the
dance is over. Meanwhile, Griffen feels that Jordan is trying to take
over his band. Griffen sabotages his band's concert. He pulls a silk
curtain down over Jordan, Eric, and Brett while they are performing at
the dance. They are laughed at and humiliated by the crowd. Jordan is
furious and declares, "You betrayed us all over nothing! I don't want
your band! I was just flattered that you let me play!" Brett and Eric
walk away in anger telling Griffen that they don't want to be in any
band that he's a part of.
Episode Highlights:
1. Caitlin wants to look good for the arrival of Danny and his band.
She walks up to Will and says, "I need to collect on the favor you owe
me for borrowing my notes. I need you between 7 and 10 on Saturday."
Will says, "The dance." Caitlin says, "Yeah, you wouldn't have to stay
late or anything. I'll probably be hanging out with Danny and the band
afterward." Will angrily says, "What makes you think I want to go with
you?" Will shows up at the dance alone. Caitlin is angry with him for
not
going to the dance with her. She says to him, "You completely
humiliated me!" Will responds, "No, you humiliated yourself. You asked
me to the dance
because you wanted to use me. I was gonna' ask you because I wanted to
go with you."
2. Caitlin and Danny were at one time in the same foster home together.
Caitlin explains to Dori, "People always called me a looser. I started
cutting classes. I guess when you're told you're a looser
you start to act like one. Danny always tried to keep me out of
trouble." Caitlin is later disappointed when the band doesn't show up.
Taylor makes a poor attempt at trying to encourage her: "Look, I know
how you're feeling. When I was 5, I had this birthday party and the
clown didn't show up--" Caitlin abruptly interrupts her: "You know
what? If you finish that sentence, your mouth will be on the other side
of your head!" When Danny and the band finally show up long after the
dance has ended, Caitlin and Danny are happy to see each other. They
are glad to know that the other is okay. They both know that their
lives have changed for the better. Caitlin says in her closing
epilogue, "I found out it didn't matter if other kids knew I was
friends with a famous band. All that matters is that my life has
changed. And I know it."
3. Griffen and Caitlin have plenty of time to think about and regret
their mistakes after the dance is over. Caitlin says, "Will
kinda' liked me. And I knew it. But I hurt him because I wanted Danny
to like me." Griffen says, "I sacrificed a band so I could get even
with
Jordan."
