My Overall Opinion of the Episode:
One of the things that I like most about "Caitlin's Way" is that it
deals with serious themes while avoiding the trap of silly story lines.
This episode is no exception. "Making Allowances" will appeal to anyone
who has ever been falsely accused of doing something wrong.

Episode Summary:
Caitlin's social worker arrives to examine Caitlin's progress and to
decide whether or not to allow Caitlin to stay with the Lowes. Things start
to go wrong shortly after the social worker arrives. Caitlin is seen near
the cash register in a department store shortly before $200 turns up missing.
The money is later found in Caitlin's backpack. Caitlin says that she didn't
take the money but nobody believes her. Jim is about to arrest Caitlin but
Caitlin escapes on Griffen's new bike. Griffen later sees his bike outside
of the school. He goes into the school and finds Caitlin developing pictures
of Griffen performing stunts on his new bike. One of the pictures shows
Ryan Zorn in the background putting the money into Caitlin's pack. The picture
proves that Caitlin is innocent. Caitlin confronts Ryan later as he is being
brought into the sheriff's office. She says, "You set me up." Ryan responds
that he just wanted Caitlin to have the cash so that she could get a new
camera case or a lens.
Episode Highlights:
1. Griffen finds Caitlin at the school. Caitlin declares, "I didn't
take the money!" Griffen doesn't believe her and sarcastically replies,
"Right! It's just a coincidence! Just like you didn't take my bike! It
follows you! Let me guess, Caitlin: you're the victim here." Caitlin responds,
"Fine! You know what? Don't believe me!" At the end of the episode, however,
Griffen says to Caitlin, "I'm sorry I didn't believe you." Caitlin responds,
"It's okay. I'm used to it." Griffen says, "You know, I never thought I'd
say this, but my life has been a lot cooler since you showed up." Caitlin
responds, "You know, I never thought I'd say this, but living here isn't the
worst thing in the world."
2. When Caitlin and Griffen bring the photo to Jim that shows that Caitlin
is innocent, Caitlin says to Jim, "So I guess that makes me innocent." Jim
responds, "Caitlin, you moving here is new to all of us. Look, I'm not
perfect." Caitlin says, "Finally something we can agree on." Jim appears
to be hurt by this comment. He says nothing and looks away. Caitlin then
calms down and says, "Kidding. Look, if it makes you feel any better, I'm
not perfect either." Jim jokingly responds, "Yeah, I've heard that about
you." Jim holds out his hand and says, "Forgiven?" Caitlin shakes his hand
and responds, "Yeah."
3. The social worker allows Caitlin to stay with the Lowes. She writes,
"Although Caitlin has a long way to go, she is headed in the right direction.
I believe it was a good decision to place Caitlin in the Lowes' care, both
for Caitlin and for them."
