Episode Summary:
Dori, Jim, Caitlin, Griffen, Eric, and Brett decided to have fun at the
local ski resort which has just opened for the winter. Eric challenges Caitlin
to beat him in a game of "slaps." Caitlin thinks that it is "juvenile," but
she does it anyway. Eric tells Caitlin that if she looses she has to take
a picture of him doing a "360" on his snowboard. Caitlin looses. Caitlin,
however, is unable to spot Eric among all the snowboarders and she doesn't
get the photo. Eric decides to go to a run called "Icicle" in spite of the
fact that it is closed because of exposed rocks. Eric collides with a tree
and looses control. He screams with intense pain as he flips and tumbles.
Caitlin realizes that something is wrong and she stops taking pictures.
Eric has dislocated his shoulder. Caitlin pops his shoulder back into place
as Eric screams in pain. He begins to cry. A snowstorm suddenly moves in.
Eric and Caitlin make it to a nearby supply shed to wait out the storm.
They eventually are rescued after the storm is over.
Episode Highlights:
1. Caitlin asks Eric what it feels like to jump like he does. Eric responds,
"Speed's really good. It's like you're going so fast, so high, that the earth
can't even hold you. It's like you're hanging there and time just stops."
2. As Caitlin and Eric wait the storm out in the supply shed, Eric tells
Caitlin not to tell anyone that he cried. Caitlin tells him, "What happened
up there was our thing." Eric says, "My dad would kill me if he found out.
No pain's too big for a rancher's son." Caitlin asks, "When was the last
time you cried?" Eric answers that he hasn't cried since he was five years
old. He says, "It's different when you're a girl." Caitlin says, "No it's
not. Maybe for some girls." Eric says, "You don't cry." Caitlin responds,
"I do sometimes. Because of my mom." Eric says, "Just not around anybody
else." Caitlin says, "Never. Unless I totally loose it."
3. Caitlin's closing epilogue: "I thought there was only one thing to
know about Eric: that he was a loud-mouth jerk. I was wrong. There's a lot
going on inside of him. But he's gotta' hide his feelings to keep up his
image. It's not easy. I should know. I do the same thing everyday."
