Episode Summary:
Brett is baby sitting his little sister Julie. He asks Caitlin to watch
her while he goes to soccer practice. Caitlin reluctantly agrees after Brett
tells her that she owes him because she blamed him for wrecking Griffen's
science project. (See the episode Chemistry.)
Julie turns out to be quite a challenge. Her personality is even more aggressive
than Caitlin's! Julie eventually begins to open up to Caitlin, however.
While Brett and the soccer team play in freshly fallen snow, Julie tells
Caitlin that her dream is to be a champion rodeo barrel racer. Caitlin again
agrees to baby sit Julie the next day because Brett's soccer team has a
strategy session. Caitlin learns that Julie's horse Patches is going to
be sold because her parents can't afford to keep him. It's a crushing blow
to Julie's dreams of being a cowgirl barrel racer. Caitlin tells Julie
that someone once tried to take Bandit away from her and that she tried
to hide Bandit. (See the episode The Present, Part
II.) Julie tries to do the same but Caitlin tracks her down and stops
her. The episode ends with the Lowe's agreeing to board Julie's horse as
long as Julie agrees to groom him, exercise him, and muck out his stalls
at least twice a week.
Episode Highlights:
1. Caitlin finds Julie after she tries to hide patches. Caitlin asks,
"How are you gonna' take care of patches if you run away? I mean, how are
you gonna' feed him? How are you going to groom him? What are you going
to do if he gets sick? Julie, if you and patches run away, then you're going
to loose everything: your horse, your home, your entire life."
2. After Caitlin tells Julie that she could loose everything by running
away, Julie says, "You don't understand what it's like to loose someone you
love this much." Caitlin responds, "Yes I do." Julie responds, "No you
don't. You got to keep Bandit." Caitlin says, "Yeah, maybe. But I lost
my mother."
3. Caitlin explains to Julie what it was like to loose her mother: "I
was 8 when it happened. Sometimes I used to think that she wasn't even
dead at all, that I'd run into her on the street one day and she'd tell
me why she left me. Everything would be back to normal. Then I realized
that she was never coming back. But I never stopped loving her and I never
stopped wishing for a real family. And now I have one, so you shouldn't
give up on your dreams either." Julie asks, "You believe I can be a cowgirl?"
Caitlin responds, "You can be anything you wanna' be."
