Quirino Longo (Reno) Longo’s Kennel

BACK TO HISTORY

Mr. Quirino Longo with his Grandson Mr. Robert Offer

Mr. Quirino Longo, better known as Reno to our club members immigrated to the United States from Italy at 19. Reno has been an active and committed member of the GSPC of Michigan for over 40 years. He was so appreciative of the assistance he received as a new GSP owner, Reno has always been eager to share his knowledge with others. As a result, he has trained many dogs and helped other members achieve Master Hunting titles on their dogs. In his own words, Reno’'s goal is always ― to produce a good, sound hunting dog.

Reno has made other valued contributions to the club as well. He is always there to lend a helping hand at hunting tests, other events, and club functions. He hosted the club’s monthly meeting at his home for many years and played an important part in arranging the club’s annual banquet. Reno and his wife have proven to be wonderful hosts, always making sure that any event was as wonderful as it could be. One thing people may not know about Reno is his passion as a winemaker and a bottle of his wine is usually the most sought-after item on the GSP raffle tables.

Reno is very appreciative of the hard work other members contribute to continuing to make the club successful. He describes the best part of the club as being ― the people‖ and encourages members to volunteer to help at events a few times a year in order to enrich their experience. Mr. Quirino Longo was awarded Lifetime Honorary Membership for his service to the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Michigan.

The Story of Longo's Kennel:

Reno loves to hunt and has owned many dogs of various breeds. One day, his son asked if he could purchase a German Shorthaired Pointer that was advertised in a newspaper for $150. Reno felt this was a great deal of money to spend on a dog but, because his son had worked hard and saved the money, Reno allowed him to purchase it. Reno was so impressed with the dog that he soon found himself a proud owner of Miss Roseville, Reno’'s first AKC registered German Shorthaired Pointer.

Eventually, Reno came across an advertisement for a Fun Field Trial given by the GSPC of Michigan. After speaking with Mario DiMambro, another longtime member of our Club, Reno entered Miss Roseville in the trial and soon after became a member of our Club. With some much-valued assistance from Mario and Jerry Leach, Reno and Miss Roseville were able to attain a Master Hunter title.

Mr. Quirino Longo and his many earned awards, ribbons and trophies.
