Tom and Huck PG
1995 Action/Adventure 1:35 Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Brad Renfro, Eric Schweig, Rachael Leigh Cook, Courtland Mead, Michael McShane, Charles Rocket Director: Peter Hewitt Based on Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Summary: The classic story of Tom Sawyer (Thomas) and Huckleberry Finn (Renfro). This recent version is filled with adventure as "the original bad boys" invent trouble and then try to get out of it. It all starts when Tom and Huck go to the graveyard one night to get rid of warts. There, they see Injun Joe (Schwieg) murder Doc Robinson. They run and decide to sign an oath to swear they will never tell a soul what they saw. But things get tricky when the next day they see the whole town of Hannibal accuse the innocent town drunk Muff Potter (McShane) of killing Doc Robinson. The two boys don't want to tell, for they fear Injun Joe will kill them in a second. Yet, they feel they can't let Muff hang for something he didn't do. The two young lads do everything they can to save Muff without breaking the oath. What they get themselves into is a lot of adventure, which is fun for both them and you, the viewer. Opinion: A great retelling of Twain's story with both Home Improvement's Thomas and The Client's Renfro doing superb in their title roles. Great fun for the whole family plus a splendid soundtrack. Great supporting cast includes good performances by the warm McShane and the vicious Schweig. Whoops! In a scene about 25 minutes into the film, there is one of the most caught errors in the film. When Tom and Huck are signing the oath in blood, Jonathan Taylor Thomas takes a knife and pricks a finger on his right hand. But Thomas is shown a second later signing the oath with his left hand. Someone screwed up there. Setting: Hannibal, Missouri 1840's Filmed: Decatur, Alabama Timeframe: About three weeks Release Date: December 22, 1995 |

Taylor Thomas & Brad Renfro Play "True Blue Kids"
I WAS ESPECIALLY EXCITED ABOUT DOING THIS FILM," says Jonathan Taylor Thomas of his role as Tom Sawyer in Tom and Huck, based on Mark Twain's novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, one of the classic buddy stories of all time. "Tom has all the qualities that I look for in a friend. He's got leadership abilities. He can always be counted on. He loves adventure and excitement. But at the same time he has a good heart and knows right from wrong." Playing Tom Sawyer's sidekick Huck Finn is Brad Renfro (who made his silver-screen debut in "The Client.") "Tom is very willful," Renfro says, "whereas my character, Huck is a little crazy. But they're perfect together--like Laurel & Hardy." Adds Thomas, "The relationship between Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn is really extraordinary. They both depend on each other a lot. And I think the spirit of the real boy in Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn is very much alive in today's kids. And thet's why I think today's kids relate to the story. Because deep down, kids are the same no matter what era they live in. There will always be the kind of spirit that Tom and Huck represent. They're just true blue kids."
