Here's something you don't see every day. Air Condo's From the Vaults and Points Beyond contains music that was recorded more than 20 years ago and is not a re-issue of a record from that venerable (or was it venereal) decade. Though the band's aspirations were very much record contract focused it never happened for us. We're not really sure why we didn't make it. We were fun to watch and listen to, and there was no shortage of quality original music. If anything, one might argue that our lack of success beyond the local Detroit bar scene was directly attributable to that wealth of originals. Virtually every member of the band was contributing to the list of non-OPs (other people's) and it's been suggested that nothing resembling a firm direction was evident because the songs very much reflected the individual tastes (or lack there...) of the various members. Those tastes were disparate to say the least. Consequently, we were an R&B band (What It Is) on one song, a fusion jazz band on others (Beanhead, It's Only Natural), an occasional rock and pop group (Everybody Needs to be Someone, Life) and every now and again we were hard core funksters (Seeya Bye). And don't forget the romantic ballads supplied by Paul Kingery (Another Lover's Come and Gone, Lady of September), not to mention what can only be categorized as progressive rock (Where Did All the Heroes Go, Mountains, Message to the Mothership). Geez, it's no damn wonder we never made it. So here we are at the start of a new century, two decades after the fact, and lo and behold the music lives again. And we've discovered the internet really doesn't give a hoot if you sound like the Yes on one tune and Tower of Power on the next. It's all good. Now granted, our expectations going in were low, but much to our surprise the music received an extremely warm welcome first at MP3.com, and now at our current home ArtistLaunch.com. Thousands from all over the world have listened to the music of Air Condo since September of 1999 either by streaming or downloading .mp3 format digital copies from our MP3c and AL pages. We've even managed a decent number of CD sales. Feedback from those who have listened has been extremely favorable. As mentioned on our news page, the band is preparing some fresh original material - the first in over 20 years - that we hope to unleash on an unsuspecting world sooner or later. And there may be additional live performances in the summer of 2003 and beyond as well. Everything is either in the works or TBD but we won't keep any secrets - when we know, you'll know. Stay tuned. |
