Pat Garrett Murder Site
This page of my site shows two photos of the approximate site of the murder of Pat Garrett. On Feb. 29, 1908, on the road from his ranch to Las Cruces, Garrett was shot and killed by a man whose identity is still debated by historians. However, most historians agree that when Garrett was shot, he standing beside his parked buggy urinating and had no chance to defend himself from his murderer.
This image depicts the approximate location on the road to Las Cruces on which Garrett was killed. At the time this photo was taken, in June of 2003, there was construction being done on the road and the historical marker that was previously in place noting the murder site had been taken down.
This photo was taken to the right of the above one, showing some of the roadwork that was being done at the time.
