Tunstall Store, Page 1

This section of my page contains photos of the exterior of the Tunstall store. Built in 1877, it has changed little since the time of the Lincoln County War, the only significant difference being that during that time, it had a flat roof. It was in front of the store that Sheriff William Brady and Dep. George Hindman were ambushed and killed by the Regulators. During the Five-Day Battle, Regulators George Coe, Henry Brown, and Sam Smith manned this store. Today, it is operated as a museum.

This image shows the front of the Tunstall store.

This image shows the store from the backyard, which was surrounded by a large adobe wall during the war. The wall has since eroded away, with only parts of its foundation remaining. The grave markers of John Tunstall and Alex McSween would be located approximately where the photographer was standing.
