Site of Squire Wilson's House
This section of my page contains a photo of the approximate site of Justice of the Peace John B. "Squire" Wilson's house, or jacal. It was in this building in March 1879 that Billy the Kid met Gov. Lew Wallace for the first time and the deal was struck between the two in which Wallace would grant the Kid a pardon if the Kid testified before a grand jury. The actual building, which was only a two or three room structure, did not last many years after the historical meeting took place.
Wilson's house was pretty far removed from the town's street, so actual site would have been around the middle of this photo.
