EERIE VON
Eerie Von is sort of this creepy dude with big muscles. If you've ever been a fan of DANZIG or SAMHAIN you know what I'm talking about. 'nuff said....So anyways, we tracked him down via internet and did an e-mail interview with this scary bass player and here it is!
CORNFLAKE OVERDOSE-You used to do photography for the MISFITS, then later came to join Glenn and friends and move on to music. What is your first love? Photography or music?
EERIE VON-Music is what I love the most. Photography is a hobby.
COD-How did you become involved with taking pictures for the MISFITS?
EV-Doyle and I went to school together, and I was a photographer then so he just asked me to shoot the band.
COD-Who is your biggest influence in the art of photography?
EV-George Hurell. He was an old hollywood glamour photographer.
COD-Do you still do some photography now?
EV-Yes.
COD-So where can we see some of your work?
EV-It remains unpublished.
COD-How did the transition come about from photographer to full-time musician in SAMHAIN?
EV-The MISFITS always needed a new drummer and aI had been playing around with it for quite a few years. Then I did a band called ROSEMARY'S BABIES in '82 and when a chance came up to join the MISFITS I auditioned. I got the job, but later turned it down to put out a record with my other band. Glenn and I kept in touch after our first meeting and we later formed SAMHAIN together. I was originally a drummer for SAMHAIN.
COD-Did you have the "scary, horror" image before SAMHAIN or was that something that was new to you that Glenn wanted to continue using?
EV-I was using the name Eerie Von in High school and was a MISFITS fan so I got it from them. SAMHAIN was kind of a continuation of the MISFITS.
COD-What is your favorite horror movie?
EV-I like all the universal horror movies from the 30's & 40's.
COD-Where did the SAMHAIN (now DANZIG'S trademark) skull come from?
EV-Glenn lifted that off of a Marvel comic called "Krystar".
COD-What is your favorite SAMHAIN album and why?
EV-November Coming Fire....just because.
COD-Do you have any religious beliefs?
EV-Too many to list.
COD-There is such a musical difference between SAMHAIN & DANZIG. Thought they both (at first) contained the same band members, who decided to change the style of music and why?
EV-Nobody decided to change. We got more into metal because it was something we had ignored in teh past and John Christ was a metalhead so it just happened.
COD-What is the story behind you leaving DANZIG?
EV-No story, just tired of it and when Chuck left, the band wasn't as good, so it was time to split.
COD-What are some of your favorite bands?
EV-Minor Threat, the FU's, Bad Brains, Misfits, Type O Negative and alot of old blues stuff.
COD-Do you feel you are getting a good response from going solo?
EV-I'm very pleased with the response I've been getting. Very kool.
COD-How would you describe your sound?
EV-Spooky.
Well there ya have it folks....short but sweeeeeeeeet!!
