MOVIE REVIEWS

CARNIVAL OF SOULS(remake)Man you'd think they could do a much better job with this. Especially since Wes Craven, the man behind the remake, seems to be on a bit of a roll....until now. In order to really understand this one you have to see the original. I can't say too much about it cuz I don't want to ruin it for anyone out there (actually Wes already did ruin it) but what you find out in the original you don't see so clearly in the remake. IT SUCKED. (chad od)

URBAN LEGEND-When Joe saw this he told me it was absolutely horrible. Well, he thought Jason Goes To Hell was the worst Friday the 13th but it's one of my faves & by far the goriest, so I knew that I just had to see Urban Legend for myself. Maybe it's the fact that peopel were telling me that it sucked or because it wasn't over-rated (Scream II) that I found it rather entertaining & enjoyed it. It has a bigtime Scream feel to it & is filled with creepiness. Somebody on campus is killing people using Urban Legends (old myths passed on as fact thru the years....that's all I'll say)& no one knows who's doing it. Part of the fun is guessing. I also found the editing to be very well done.

JACK FROST-All I can really say is there is a very important rule to watching films like this, and that is: make sure you DON'T WATCH IT ALONE....not because you'll be scared, but because if you don't you'll fall asleep. You need that extra someone special sitting next to you, a friend with a good sense of humor so you can both point and laugh throughout the cheese that's hard to digest. Remember, it's always a good rule to NEVER take movies like this seriously before putting them in. People hate movies like this or ANACONDA because they are expecting something else. These kinds of flicks aren't meant to be taken seriously and as long as you know that before watching you just may have fun. A serial killer who's name just happnes to be Jack Frost is being transported in the back of a van to be executed. The van collides with a truck carrying some type of wicked acid/chemical. The stuff melts him into the snow and you can guess the rest....can anyone say....CHUCKY....I think we've seen this kind of stuff before. The "monster" itself is as bad as they come, you can see the foam made thing bending and such, and the face is about as scary looking as Sandra Bullock....well nevermind the Bullock (wow, I'm full of puns)it's just plain ridiculous that's all. Get this only if your in for a laugh, if your into gore....look elsewhere. (chad od)

CUBE-From beginning til end this independent sci-fi/horror flick keeps you entertained and wondering. Exceptional special FX & one of the most original plots I've seen in a coon's age. 6 people wake up in a 14'X14' room with a small door on each wall leading to rooms that look exactly the same. Some are lethally booby-trapped, some aren't. They wake with absolutely no idea why or how they got to where they are, or how to get out....and so the story begins. Definitely an under-rated piece o' work here (chad od)
