During the infancy of the human race, Abnegazar, Rath and Ghast inhabited the planet Earth and used their magical powers to spread evil among the planets pre-human population. As time went on, a mysterious race called the Timeless Ones appeared on Earth and discovered the evil schemes of the three treacherous demons. In an attempt to purify the Earth from chaos, the Timeless Ones used their innate magical abilities to banish the demons beneath the surface of the Earth, trapping them for eternity. The Timeless Ones thought they ended the threat to Earth but they were wrong.
The three demons had prepared for such an event by creating three powerful talismans called the Silver Wheel of Wyorlath, the Green Bell of Utheol and the Red Jar of Calythoe, which they also hid beneath the Earth. As millions of years passed, 20th century sorcerer Felix Faust uncovered some arcane knowledge about the three demons. Faust decided to conjure up the spirits of the demons to gain their powers. The demons told Faust of the existence of three powerful talismans but warned him that they were guarded by magically powered entities. The scheming Faust decided to use the Justice League to unearth the magical talismans and set in motion the events needed to free the demons in a hundred years.
