The Detroit Red Wings
have won 9 Stanley Cup Championships .
They won back to back titles in 1997 and
1998 . In 1997 they swept past the
Philadelphia Flyers in 4 games . Then in
1998 they repeated their sweep against
the Washington Capitals . Team captain
is Steve Yzerman and the assistant
captains are Brendan Shanahan and
Nicklas Lidstrom . The Wings are coached
by the legendary Scotty Bowman , winner
of 8 Stanley Cups of his own . Other
team standouts include Sergei Fedorov ,
Chris Osgood , Darren McCarty , Igor
Larionov , and Larry Murphy . Lets not
forget to mention former standout
Vladimir Konstantinov whose career was
cut short by a tragic auto accident .
The Wings also this year added all-star
defenseman Chris Chelios to the team in
hopes of regaining the holy grail of
