We here at Hot Tub Info Central have for the greater part of the last 6 years tried to make better consumers out of the spa and hot tub shoppers that have come to view our pages.
In what I like to call a "Eureka" moment, it came to me, to write a check list or "quick reference shoppers guide".
This should help you to gather the important information from your local spa and hot tub retailers in a clear and concise manner. So you can make a well educated buying decision later in the comfort of your own home, when you have time to review all that you have seen and are not being asked by a sales person to "put a deposit down". (We feel that the best buying decisions are made when there is no pressure.)
You can click here to download a printable copy of this check list in word doc format or print this whole page if you prefer.
You should attach a business card and the brochure for the spa you are interested in, to each completed copy of this check sheet. You will therefore need to fill out one check sheet for each spa you are interested in. (hint to print more than one copy)
NOTE: Some of my notes do not appear on the downloadable copy.

Length of time in business: ____________ length of time at this location:________
Has the dealership changed names in the last 2 years: Y / N (May be a sign of stability / instability)
One sign of a business in trouble is name changing. Also a business that has been open for greater than 2 years should be considered more stable. (Although business that have been open for greater than two yeas can still close, this is one minor point to consider when purchasing)
If you do not care for your salesman, ask for another, or better ask for the manager. A single salesman should not be a determining factor in your purchase. However a dealership that will not accommodate you by letting you speak to the manager, before you buy, may not be trustworthy when you need action after the sale.

Will the spa need an electrician to hook up? Y / N (most do)
Will the dealer coordinate with your electrician to hook up the spa and help you with setting it up and getting it running on or near your delivery date? Y / N
This small service of getting it running is in my opinion one of the most valuable services a dealer can perform, as it gives you a chance to ask any questions about the operation of the spa or set up of the spa that you have. It also gives you the opportunity to make sure that your spa is fully operational before the dealership’s representative leaves. This is, in no way a make or break the deal question, but a good value if it comes down to picking two and one dealership does offer this service and one does not.
What was your overall feeling about this spa and dealership?

There are also other details not listed in the check sheet that should be considered, many of these are strictly opinion and as such have been left out on purpose. These include insulation techniques, construction techniques, plumbing arraignment, electronic equipment brand used, and so on. You should enquire about all of these things, and more, but in the end how a spa is put together, and what makes one way of building better than another, is mostly just opinion. We hope that the information contained in the rest of our web site, will help you in sorting all of that out before you go shopping, or will help you after you return with your shopper's check sheets all filled out and ready for review.
