These two pictures show the dash as it was when I procured the truck. You can see that the ashtray area has been notched out on both sides and the bottom has been enlarged about 1/8 of an inch. Two holes were drilled in opposite corners of the opening.
The left picture shows the new ashtray piece clamped and glued in place. The patch was cut from another dash that had been removed from a truck that was being converted to a Chevrolet. The adhesive is a two part 3M product that is used in the body shop industry to glue panels on in non- structural areas. The right picture shows the patch, 24 hours later, after the clamps have been removed. We used more adhesive then necessary so that it would push out when clamped and could be sanded down thus requiring less filler.
The left picture is a close-up showing the adhesive before sanding. The right picture shows the patched area after sanding the adhesive.
The left picture shows the patched area after filler has been used and sanded and some roll-on sandable filler/primer has been used. The right picture shows the finsished repair ready for paint.
