Instructions for printing.
- Click on the link above to start the download. Save to the "My
Documents" folder, or somewhere you'll be able to find it.
- The file you download is a ZIP file. You'll need WINZIP (windows)
or STUFFIT (mac) to open the file. Extract the file inside to
somewhere you can find it. You can get WINZIP [here].
- The file that comes out is a PDF file. Technical mumble that
means you need Acrobat Reader to open the file. You almost certainly
have Acrobat Reader already installed. If not, Acrobat Reader
is free and you can download it by clicking [here].
- Double click on the flyer file (named something like "finals.pdf"
or "poster.pdf") and it will open.
- Click the printer icon.
- Thanks! Put the flyer up and pat yourself on the back for being
a supporter of the show.
- If you have any problems, e-mail me at kevincharles@poetryslam.com
and I'll help you.
HELP!
Survival Of The Show Depends On You.
Everyone gets into the show without paying a cent at the door.
We think you like that we don't charge a cover. If that's true,
then you need to do something for us in order to keep the show free.
In fact, we need you to do some things to keep the show going at
all.
Because we don't have money coming in, we don't have any money
to go out in the form of advertising. The attendence at the shows
have been down for the past couple of shows; not unexpected with
such nice weather. BUT, if we don't get more butts in the seats
at POP!Cafe, they're not going to want us around much longer.
Here's what you can do to support the shows at POP!Cafe and keep
the doors open for everyone.
- Download the flyer for the next show. Print out as many copies
as you can (at least one) and put them up in the places you go.
Start with where you work. Make your co-workers more tolerable
to deal with by enticing them to participate in an event that
will make them more interesting as people. :) Click here
to go to the special page we've put up with links to the posters,
and instructions on how to print them.
- Talk to people you know about the show.
And the best way to get people to come is not to ask them to come.
Instead, just talk about what a great time you had at the last
show you went to. Tell them what was so great about it. They'll
start to ask questions and before long they'll be asking where
and when the next show is, and they will sell themselves on the
idea of going. Just before the next show, remind them. Ask them
if they're going.
- Buy our merchandise.
We will have stuff to buy available at tables in the back. There
will soon be CD's, Videos and Books. The money you spend on those
items goes towards the shows.
- Buy drinks (and food when they get it) at the show.
POP!Cafe' isn't letting us have the run of the place every Sunday
night just because they are being cheritable. They need to make
money or it's not worth the money they spend to keep the place
open. Don't bring drinks or food into POP!Cafe' when you come.
That don't look good, and it hurts our ability to stay there.
- Get there as early as you can.
As a rule, when people come in and see that there aren't many
people there, they think that it won't be much fun. They might
stay for a while, they might leave right away. Either way, they
aren't coming back. A full house tells people that this is fun
and worth their time.
- Be friendly to new people.
If you see a face you don't recognize, walk up and welcome them
to the show. People don't like feeling uncomfortable in a new
situation, and they always feel uncomfortable when so many people
seem to know eachother. Just walking up and chatting with the
new folk for a couple of minutes is the best endorsement you can
make.
