Adrienne Clarkson

Adrienne Clarkson was born in Hong Kong, the daughter of Chinese parents.

She came to Canada as a refugee, with her parents, after her family was forced to leave by the Japanese aggressive, invasion of Hong Kong in 1941.

After they moved from Hong Kong, they moved to Ottawa and Adrienne grew up there.

She attended Lisgar Collegiate, after that she went to Trinity Collage. Next, she attended the University of Toronto on a scholarship. She became the head of her college and got her Masters of Arts in English in 1962.

She then traveled to France and continued her studies at l'University de Paris-Sorbonne.

From 1982-1987 she was an Agent General for Ontario in Paris, France.

Now, Adrienne has spent 30 years in Canadian Broadcasting. She has written and directed four documentaries and dramas for TV they are:

1. Artemisia, which aired on her series, Adrienne Clarkson presents, on January 1993.

2. Borduas and Me, telecast in 1994.

3. The Lust of his Eye: Visions of James Wilson Morris, in 1995.

4. Black and White Color: The making of the English Patent, in 1996.

Adrienne Clarkson is (currently) the host and executive producer of " Adrienne Clarkson presents." It features Canadian creators in film, theater and dance, music and of course, arts.

Also, she is producing a C.B.C show called " Something special." On the show, some of the series topics that she's done was a in-depth profile of Canadian star Ben Hepper, and " Beauty for Ashes."

As you can tell, she is one of Canada's leading television personalities!

In October of 1992 she was appointed an officer of the Order of Canada.

In March, 1993, Mrs. Clarkson was the " recipient of a Gemini Award for best Host in a Light Information, Variety and Performing Arts Program."

Later that year Adrienne was made " an Honary fellow of the Royal Conservatory of Music."

Currently, she is the person who presides over a meeting or a committee, also known as a chairwoman of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation in Ottawa. She also chairs two of the most popular museums of Canada, - the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum since 1995.

Adrienne Clarkson is the first non- European person to be elected president of the prestigious International Music Center in Vienna, Australia (IMZ). The IMZ is an International organization of over 230 leading audiovisual producer and arts programs with a focus on classical music.

Members of the IMZ include the world's leading head creators, distributors and broadcasters who all share an interest in arts.

Mrs. Clarkson is also the author of 3 novels, and has received commemorate doctories from Dalhouse University in 1988, Lakehead University in 1989, Acadia University in 1991 and the University of Prince Edward Island in 1996.

Adrienne has just become the country's 26th Governor General. She has vowed to inject the boring old role of Governor General with a new energetic role.

Adrienne Clarkson is a cultural icon and is totally committed to continuing the arts and cultural expression in Canada and around the world.

Adrienne is full of energy, is powerful, clever, cunning and very skillful and that's exactly what the nation needs to lead us into the next millennium.
