Vernal Equinox

A pretty pattern in the snow

Riding on the clean dew-backed frost

With its hoary heads of ivory

Pale in the glittering sun

Blinding beauty that creates its own

Hues of gold and apricot, dappled twilight

Luminescent rays that stream onto

The glistening waves that shimmer and burn

Raining pale light on the crisp jade heads

Peeping furtively from the pristine mounds

That stretch eagerly, desperately

Towards the golden milestone

Hanging by its invisible string

Clinging to its rare niche in the stars

Drawing the watery beams of its sister

A slender crescent in the cool evening air

The pale new moon spreads its

Wavering wings over the silent stream

And the light blanket of snow

That lies waiting for thaw
