Poison Butterfly

You always seemed to be oh-so helpless and so pretty

Tragically beset by cruel fate and crying out for pity

Making many friends to support your self-esteem

Leaving them shattered when you feel you’re redeemed

You constantly flicker from one party to another

Spill tears over your situation, your mother and your brother

Wait for another shoulder to cry on

Wait for another willing bed to lie on

You talk so sweetly, with such charm and grace

Flipping yet another side, showing another face

Try to act like you’re so worldly and grown-up

Always talk about the issues to which you never own up

You focus your existence on the shallow and unstable

And act like you deserve the Cinderella fable

I’m here to tell you, I’m sick of all your mercenary ways

How you feign devotion in your drugged and girlish haze

How you can give advise when your life you can’t defend

How you can even think you can pretend to be a friend

You constantly judge others for deeds far less than yours

And when things don’t go your way, in faces you slam doors

An endless promise-breaker and keeper of false hopes

I’ll not any longer jump through all your ropes.
