Generation No. 1

1.  POPE^11,2 died Unknown.  He married RUTH HAMMOND³.  She died Unknown.

Mary's (Mary G. Huntoon below) first husband was Reuben Pope, and second husband his brother Elnathan. When Elnathan died she went to live with Thomas and Eliza Converse Pope. However, when they decided to move back to Vermont she stayed behind. Mary Pope then lived with Sarah Gardner Huntoon until her death in 1892, at the age of 88 years 5 months, and 28 days. She was laid to rest beside Elnathan Pope her husband at the Parfreyville (sic s/b Pardeeville, Wisconsin) burial plot.
The older Popes remember her as "Aunt Mary" a very delightfully charming old lady.
Reuben Oscar (6) Pope married Mary Huntoon** (born June 15, 1805 Washington, Vermont) on July 23, 1835. From this marriage there was one child born a son. 1.) Reuben Oscar (7) Pope Jr. born December 26, 1836 near Washington, Vermont.
After Reuben's death Mary Huntoon Pope married Elnathan (6) Pope, Reuben's brother. Elnathan (6) Pope married Mary Huntoon Pope (former wife of Reuben Pope) (born June 15, 1805 Washington, Vermont) aft December 26, 1835. From her first marriage there was one child born a son. 1.) Reuben Oscar (7) Pope Jr.** born December 26, 1836 near Washington, Vermont **This child would be Elnathan's nephew (son of Reuben Oscar ) as well as his step son.
This was Reuben's second marriage as his first wife was Laura Thompson first wife on September 1827. From this marriage produced several children, but only one child was recorded. 1.) Susan Elizabeth Pope born July 16, 1828 Reading, Vermont.  It is known that Reuben also had sons in this marriage to Laura but no records have been found. Laura died and Reuben married for a second time.

His daughter (perhaps) published "Old Hemlock: the letters and poems of Elnathan Pope; together with those of his mother Ruth Hammond Pope, his wife Mary Huntoon Pope, and those of his uncle Thomas Faunce Hammond." There's a copy in the Library of Michigan, Lansing.

• 1880 census in Lind, Waupaca Co., Wisconsin: Mary Pope is a 74 year-old "boarder" in the home of John Huntoon, the present Mary's nephew.

2.  REUBEN OSCAR² POPE (POPE¹)⁶ was born 15 Jun 1805 in Washington, Orange County, Vermont⁶, and died Unknown.  He married (1) LAURA THOMPSON⁶ Sep 1827⁶.  She died Bef. 1835⁶.  He married (2) MARY G. HUNTOON⁶ 25 Jul 1835⁶, daughter of SAMUEL HUNTOON and SARAH.  She was born 15 Jun 1805^6,7, and died 13 Dec 1893⁸.
