"Mrs. Wm. Patton, aged 84 years, died very suddenly of heart disease at her home on the Mahlon Brown farm in Batavia township last Tuesday evening. She had partaken of her breakfast and was still sitting at the table when she fell from her chair and soon expired. She was born in Ireland but had resided in Batavia a great many years. The funeral was attended at St. Charles Church yesterday and the remains taken to Hillsdale for burial."

Wm. Patton
"Wm. Patton died of paralysis Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
Francis Covey, in Batavia township, at the age of 89 years. The funeral was
held this morning at 10:30 at St. Charles Catholic Church, and the remains were
taken to Hillsdale for burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
"Mr. Patton was born June 5, 1813 in York, Fayette County, Pa., and was
married in 1836 in Ohio, to Jane McFadden, who died in February, 1901. To them
were born ten children, four of whom survive. They are: Jos. A. Patton, of
Hillsdale; Mrs. Francis Covey and Mrs. William Covey, of Batavia, and Miss
Caroline Patton of Kalamazoo.
"Mr. Patton became a resident of Branch County in 1843 (probably 1853 see
census), when he settled in Noble township. For some time he had resided in
Hillsdale, coming to live with his daughter in Batavia about two years ago.
"He had many friends in Branch county, and his funeral this morning was
largely attended."
