Emigrated with father to Scituate, Boston and Barnstable.  Member of the Barnstable Company.  Was in Maj. Simon Willard's expedition against Ninigret.  1646/7 removed to New London with John Winthrop, Jr and party.  Became important citizen.  One of the 1st 18 assigned land on E. side of River Pequot {Jan. 17 and 18 1648/9) and also land W. of Pequot River.  Judge with Winthrop and Thos. Minor of Gen. Court at Pequot.  Establ. mill to grind corn.  Aided in defense of fort against Narragansetts and protected Uncas.  1661 sold homestead.  1668 removed to Norwich.  Constable 1673.  townsman 1685.
