"The Crane family came from Cheshire," England, says the Rockaway Records of Morris County, N. J. Families, p. 200, "GENERAL JOSIAH CRANE was in the service of King James and for his services was rewarded with a coat of arms and a goodly estate. It is said that some of his descendants went to the North of Ireland, some to Germany, and later JASPER, probably Stephen and Phoebe to America." "On his lot (Jasper's at Newark, N. J.) now stands St. Paul's Episcopal church."
