Mr. Mistoffelees
Personality:
Mr. Mistoffelees is obviously a young, fun-loving, tom. He still has that kittenish air about him, and he’s not yet a fully grown cat. He’s playful and enjoys hogging the spotlight. For instance, when Munkustrap begins singing about the Old Gumbie Cat, Mistoffelees acts if the song’s about him, at least until the name ‘Jennyanydots’ is mentioned. Then he sinks down to the floor and looks hurt. He plays with Bustopher’s tail and hides behind Old Deuteronomy. He’s attracted to Victoria, but he seems to have some connection with Cassandra, even though it isn’t a romantic one. Despite his age, he’s part of that circle of Mystical Cats, which includes himself, Cassandra, Coricopat, and Tantomile. This talent comes in handy when Macavity kidnaps Deuteronomy, and Mistoffelees must put aside his fun-loving nature and turn serious. After that, everyone else seems to begin taking this young tom seriously.
CATS Spotter’s Guide Entry:
Mistoffelees is one of the younger cats, obviously, and so he’s shorter than most other cats. He has a mostly black coat, with a black tail with a white tip. His warmers are an off-white with gray stripes. Unlike the standard headpiece, which bushes out and has the ears sticking up from the fluff, Mistoffelees’s is like Jellylorum’s; the wig is goes up, and the points of the ears are part of the design. He has a mostly-white face, the only black being the nose, mouth, and eye make-up. He has some pouffy white thing on his chest. During his song, he wears a vest with all kinds of sparkly things on it, as well as a bow tie. Also during his song, he puts on different shoes (no warmers) and a really cheap tail that looks like the ones you can buy with those cheap ears.
Name Origin:
‘Mistoffelees’, so my father tells me, is an old term for the devil. It makes sense, considering that cats were considered to be allies of the devil. Out of all the names for the devil Elliot could have chosen, Mistoffelees is the best for a cat. Can you picture Magical Mr. Asmodeus? Or Magical Mr. Beelzebub? Or Magical Mr. Satan? Hehe…you get the idea.
Other Comments:
This cat is obviously very close with Victoria. They dance together quite a bit, and they seem to enjoy it. When Grizabella is going up to the Heaviside Layer, they can be seen with their heads close together. It’s practically everyone’s belief that Mistoffelees and Victoria like each other. I personally go for that one. Mistoffelees, in terms of age, seems to be older than the kittens but younger than most other cats. His fun-loving personality and ‘bouncy’ attitude endear him to many people. The actor who played him in the video, Jacob Brent, is probably the CATS Actor most adored by CATS Fans! Let’s give a big round of applause for the Original Conjuring Cat!
